An enriching intellectual journey was offered by the public forum titled 'Ethics in AI Healthcare Research' presented by the Master of Health Research Ethics (MOHRE) programme at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya. This was a collaborative effort with the esteemed Global Forum on Bioethics in Research (GFBR) and the Southeast Asia Bioethics Network (SEABioN) that aimed to foster awareness and dialogue in Malaysia on the crucial intersection of ethics and AI health research.
Held on January 24, 2024 (Wednesday) from 9:00 am to 11:00 am (MYT), the forum unfolded in the Auditorium at the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya. This event provided a unique opportunity to delve into the ethical considerations surrounding AI healthcare research, featuring a thought-provoking discussion led by experts in the field, including Mohd Adli from the International Islamic University Malaysia, Barry Solaiman from Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Muhammad Firdaus from Universiti Malaya, and Effy Vayena from ETH Zurich.
Over 30 enthusiastic participants from a diverse range of backgrounds brought a global perspective to the forum. From Switzerland and India to Southeast Asian nations like Thailand and the Philippines, alongside representatives from esteemed Malaysian universities like UIA, lively discussions explored the crucial intersection of ethics and AI healthcare research. This vibrant exchange of ideas fostered a stimulating environment for tackling complex questions in this rapidly evolving field.
