MORES Hot Topic Webinar (2022/2023)

The Master of Health Research Ethics (MOHRE) Programme, jointly developed by the Faculty of Medicine of the Universiti Malaya and the Berman Institute of Bioethics, Johns Hopkins University, proudly presented our Hot Topics in Research Ethics Webinar Series. Titled "Post Trial Responsibilities and Access to Injectable Cabotegravir for PrEP", the session featured two distinguished speakers: Dr. Jerome Singh from the University of Toronto and Dr. Raja Iskandar Shah Raja Azwa from Universiti Malaya.

The webinar focused on the use of long-acting injectable cabotegravir (CAB-LA) as a preventive measure against HIV. Recent large-scale clinical trials had demonstrated its safety and efficacy. However, accessing CAB-LA remained a challenge in many parts of the world, hindering its availability to those at risk. The session provided a concise overview of the use of CAB-LA for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, while also addressing community concerns and ethical issues stemming from the limited access to this intervention.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to all participants and attendees of the event. The recording of the webinar can be accessed on the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics webpage.
