MORES Hot Topic Webinar (2023/2024)

The Master of Health Research Ethics (MOHRE) Programme, a collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Malaya and the Berman Institute of Bioethics at Johns Hopkins University, was proud to present the webinar, "A New Framework for Animal Research Ethics."

This exciting session featured distinguished speaker Prof. Dr. David DeGrazia from George Washington University. Prof. DeGrazia introduced and defended the 6-principles framework for animal research ethics he co-developed with Tom Beauchamp in their book "Principles of Animal Research Ethics" (Oxford University Press, 2020).

The presentation delved into the three core principles of social benefit and the three core principles of animal welfare. Prof. DeGrazia explored how this framework addressed gaps in the current "3 Rs" framework (replacement, reduction, refinement) and held the potential to bridge the divide between animal research and animal protection communities.

We would like to thank all the participants who attended the webinar and for their continued support of the MOHRE Programme. For further details or inquiries about our program, please feel free to contact us via email at mohre@um.edu.my.
