Greetings everyone,
We're thrilled to share the highlights of the first MOHRE Faculty Development Workshop for 2024, which took place on January 8 and 9 at Aloft, KL Sentral. The event brought together program coordinators, course coordinators, and lecturers from the Health Research Ethics Master's program (MOHRE), with an impressive turnout of approximately 25 MOHRE faculty members.
Our distinguished guest speakers were none other than health research ethics experts: Professor Dr. Jeffrey Kahn, the director of Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics, and Prof. Dr. Jeremy Sugarman from Johns Hopkins University (JHU), along with Dr. G. Owen Schaefer and Dr. Jacqueline Chia from the National University of Singapore (NUS).
The sessions led by these experts were not only informative but also interactive, fostering engaging discussions and the exchange of opinions, ideas, and perspectives among participants. The focus was on enhancing knowledge and skills in health research ethics, particularly delving into the Philosophical Foundation of Research Ethics.
Notably, Professor Dr. Jeremy Sugarman served as the Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) and international collaborator for the grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the US. This workshop was a pivotal part of collaborative international research activities under the NIH grant (IF053-2018) conducted between UM and JHU.
Led by the expertise from JHU and NUS, the workshop was tailored for MOHRE program lecturers and featured a diverse lineup of lecturers from the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Science, Faulty of Law, and Univeriti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). The workshop, held during their visit to UM from January 8 to 11, 2024, marked a significant step in advancing our collective understanding and application of health research ethics.
Stay tuned for more enriching experiences as we continue to explore new horizons in the field of health research ethics.
