MORES Hot Topic Webinar (2023/2024)

The Master of Health Research Ethics (MOHRE) Programme, a collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Malaya and the Berman Institute of Bioethics at Johns Hopkins University, is proud to present its upcoming webinar, "Ethics and Research in Pregnancy – A Shifting Paradigm."

Don't miss a thought-provoking talk by Prof. Dr. Anne Drapkin Lyerly (University of North Carolina) as she delves into the critical issue of including pregnant people in biomedical research. Historically, pregnant people have been excluded from biomedical research. While this aimed to reduce risks in research contexts, it has led to other ethical concerns. The most pressing concern is a dearth of information to guide pregnancy-related care, resulting in widespread harms to pregnant people and their children.

In her talk, Dr. Lyerly will discuss progress towards the responsible and ethical inclusion of pregnant persons and their interests in biomedical research. She will address barriers to inclusion, areas of ongoing debate and progress, and immediate opportunities to ethically gather critical, pregnancy-specific data.
